How to Keep Your Bluetooth Speaker Sounding Like New

November 2, 2026

Introduction:
A portable Bluetooth speaker is one of the most versatile gadgets you can own. It goes with you to the beach, the shower, the kitchen, and the party. But because it goes everywhere, it also gets exposed to dust, sand, and moisture.

If you want your speaker to last for years (like the Awei KA16 60W or the AWEI KA32 Waterproof), you need to take care of it properly. Here is the safe way to clean and maintain your speaker.

1. Cleaning the Mesh Grille

Dust and dirt can get trapped in the fabric or metal mesh, muffling the sound.

  • The Fix: Use a soft toothbrush or a dry microfiber cloth to gently brush away dust. Do not use compressed air, as it can push dirt deeper into the speaker cone.

2. Respect the “Waterproof” Rating

Just because a speaker is “waterproof” doesn’t mean it is invincible.

  • IPX Ratings: Check your manual. An IPX7 rating means it can survive being submerged in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. However, saltwater and chlorinated pool water can corrode the rubber seals over time.
  • The Fix: After using your speaker near saltwater, wipe it down with a cloth dampened with fresh water to remove the salt.

3. Protect the Charging Port

The charging port is the most vulnerable part of any Bluetooth speaker. Water or dust getting inside the USB port can cause a short circuit.

  • The Fix: Always ensure the rubber flap covering the charging port is tightly sealed when you are not charging it. If the port gets dirty, use a wooden toothpick (never metal) to gently scrape out any lint.

4. Battery Health is Key

The lifespan of your speaker depends on its battery.

  • The Fix: Don’t leave your speaker plugged into the charger 24/7 once it is full. This damages the battery life over time. If you aren’t going to use your speaker for a month, charge it to about 50% and turn it off.

5. Avoid Extreme Heat

Leaving your speaker inside a hot car or directly under the sun can warp the internal components and ruin the battery.
